RSPSoc2010 From The Sea-bed to the Cloud-tops
University College Cork — September 1st - September 3rd
In 2010 the first joint UK Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society and Irish Earth Observation Symposium conference will be held in Cork, Ireland. It will be hosted by University College Cork and the National Maritime College of Ireland from 31st August to 3rd September 2010.
The theme of the conference is Visualising the World: From the Sea-bed to the Cloud-tops
The first call for papers will be issued on January 4th 2010
In recent years the volume and diversity of imagery acquired by satellite, airborne, ground and ship-based sensors has grown enormously, and the number of application domains in which the images are used has similarly multiplied. At the same time, digital mapping tools such as Google Earth, and the media use of images, after natural disasters for example, have brought remotely sensed imagery into the public domain as never before. But how can we best communicate the results derived from imagery, or from integrating images with other spatial data? How can we use these data to depict the world of today, as well as predict how it might change in the future? How can the world invisible to our eyes be made visible?
These and many other questions will be explored through the following themes:
Marine and coastal management
Ocean governance and security
Underground and underwater
Climate adaptation and mitigation
Polar and high altitude regions
Forests, food and vegetation
Atmosphere and weather
Vertical profiling
Close range sensors
New sensors and processing technologies
Four keynote speakers will present their expert views on the themes of –
End users of imagery from a UK and Irish perspective (Ian Greenway)
Remote Sensing for the marine environment (Peter Heffernan)
Remote Sensing for the terrestrial environment and GMES (Alan Belward)
Photogrammetric measurements of environmental change (Hans-Gerd Maas)
