| Bio |
I am a spatial scientist with over 8 years of experience in multiple fields, specialising in land surface remote sensing and geographical information systems (GIS), agricultural water-use modelling and statistical infectious disease mapping. I have published journal and conference papers and also provided technical reports to Defra, the European Union and the World Health Organisation.
My doctoral research focussed on the water-use applications of radar models in the irrigation sector. I was involved in the production of the UK Landcover Map 2000 produced by CEH and have held two post-doctoral positions investigating the spatial limits of disease. One of these related complex ecological transmission systems to land cover and use in Tibet, whilst the other used climate surrogates to statistically predict areas of infectious disease risk.
Outside of academia, I have pushed for the use of spatial software systems in the water sector and collaborated with cross-disciplinary teams on a number of environmental and water resource projects for the Environment Agency, water and power companies and other key clients. Project experience includes wind farm constraints reporting, reservoir siting options appraisal, river catchment planning, water resource planning and marshland habitat monitoring and modelling.
