JURSE 2011

      <dc:subject></dc:subject>

JURSE 2011 intends to be a unique forum for urban remote sensing with respect to the Information Technology and Geoscience community. A continuously increasing amount of multiple sensory data offers opportunities to address new questions and solve existing problems more effectively in urban remote sensing. To exploit the full potential these diverse data sources offer, several questions needs to be investigated, for example how to select the best data sets for different applications and how to implement and exploit the algorithms and procedures developed for single sensor data processing. Another important question is how to combine the information derived from these different sensors, for example on which level should the individually processed data been fused.

The objectives of JURSE 2011 are:

- gathering people coming from industry, academia, local and
national/international agencies together to discuss topics
related to remote sensing for urban monitoring – fostering the research and the applications of available
data sets over urban areas, with a special consideration
for high resolution satellite data and data fusion – providing new ideas for developing sensors and/or systems
able to analyze and monitor urban areas – improving the knowledge and the know-how by means of the
interaction of researchers coming from different communities
(town and regional planning, engineering, photogrammetry,
    geology, hydrology, etc.)

Conference topics:
—————————
Urban remote sensing includes a wide array of research topics and disciplines, and is emerging as a truly interdisciplinary field. The joint conferences will feature many special sessions with oral and poster components.

- New data & sensors for urban area remote sensing – Structure detection and characterization in urban areas – Algorithms and techniques for remotely sensed data interpretation – Algorithms and techniques for urban area applications

- Urban Climatology, Geology, and Geohazards – RS Applications to Social Science – RS Applications to Urban Planning and Conservation – Urban Development and Growth Pattern – Urban/Periurban Ecology

Paper Submission:
————————-
Prospective authors are invited to submit a FULL PAPER of maximum 4 pages via the web interface. These papers will undergo a review process by the program committee. Accepted papers will be published on CD-ROM and in IEEE Xplore.

Student Paper Competition:
—————————————
During the forthcoming Joint Urban Remote Sensing Event 2011, a student paper competition will be held. It is a wonderful occasion for young researchers in urban remote sensing to expose their work in this unique venue and be recognized for their value. For students whose paper will be accepted for this session, conference sponsors provide funds for partial reimbursement of travel and lodging expenses. Moreover, prizes and certificates for the first three papers in the competition will be provided.

Conference Venue:
————————-
The conference will be held in Munich, the capital of Bavaria, and will be hosted by the Department of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Technische Universitaet Muenchen (TUM). The workshop site is located at TUM, close to the museum district, and in walking distance to the main station and center of Munich.

Joint Conference Chairs:
————————————

RSPSoc Annual Conference with Irish Earth Observation Symposium

      <dc:subject></dc:subject>

In 2010 the first joint UK Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society and Irish Earth Observation Symposium conference will be held in Cork, Ireland. It will be hosted by University College Cork and the National Maritime College of Ireland from 31st August to 3rd September 2010.

The theme of the conference is Visualising the World: From the Sea-bed to the Cloud-tops

The first call for papers will be issued on January 4th 2010

In recent years the volume and diversity of imagery acquired by satellite, airborne, ground and ship-based sensors has grown enormously, and the number of application domains in which the images are used has similarly multiplied. At the same time, digital mapping tools such as Google Earth, and the media use of images, after natural disasters for example, have brought remotely sensed imagery into the public domain as never before. But how can we best communicate the results derived from imagery, or from integrating images with other spatial data? How can we use these data to depict the world of today, as well as predict how it might change in the future? How can the world invisible to our eyes be made visible?

These and many other questions will be explored through the following themes:

Marine and coastal management
Ocean governance and security
Underground and underwater
Climate adaptation and mitigation
Polar and high altitude regions
Forests, food and vegetation
Atmosphere and weather
Vertical profiling
Close range sensors
New sensors and processing technologies

Four keynote speakers will present their expert views on the themes of –

End users of imagery from a UK and Irish perspective (Ian Greenway)
Remote Sensing for the marine environment (Peter Heffernan)
Remote Sensing for the terrestrial environment and GMES (Alan Belward)
Photogrammetric measurements of environmental change (Hans-Gerd Maas)
