Bio: Alex is a Lecturer in the Surveying & Geoinformatics department of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Nigeria. He has a B.Sc degree in Surveying and Photogrammerty and a Masters Degree in Surveying and Geoinformatics from Enugu State University of Science and Technology and University of Lagos respectively. Presently he's doing a PhD research at Lancaster University under the supervision of Dr. Alan Blackburn and his reaseach is focused on studying the dynamics of the forest ecosystem of the Niger Delta region in Nigeria using GIS and Remote sensing techniques.

Research: Monitoring Deforestation and Degradation in the estuarine and lowland forests of the Niger Delta

Details of Research: The problem of deforestation and degradation in the Niger delta is one that's fast becoming a serious threat to forest ecosystem and the people who depend on such forest resources for a living within the region. This reaserach aims at investigating the possibility of mapping the degradation of canopy cover and deforestation using high resolution satellite imageries and GIS techniques and considering the effects of this threat on the stability of forest ecosystem.
