Archaeology SIG Annual Report 2000-2001
The Archaeology SIG (ARCH_SIG) aims to encourage the exchange of research and methodology between remote sensing and photograrnmetric scientists and archaeological scientists, especially those concerned with methods of site prospection. Topics include aerial photography and digital data acquisition, image processing, geophysical survey, and ground-based techniques for the examination of historic buildings. New topics tor discussion are encouraged such as the use of photograrnmetric methods in archaeological research.
The group planned a meeting for March 2001 that had to be postponed as the venue lay within a restricted area for Foot and Mouth disease. The meeting is now to be rescheduled for autumn 200l, and will be held at Bosworth Battlefield in Leicestershire; this is the site of a current research project, involving members of the group, using aerial and thermal data coupled with geophysical survey.
Details of forthcoming events may be viewed via the Society’s web pages.
