Archaeology SIG Annual Report 2001-2002
The Archaeology SIG (ARCH_SIG) aims to encourage the exchange of research and methodology between remote sensing scientists and archaeological scientists, especially those concerned with methods of site prospection. Topics include aerial photography and digital data acquisition, photogrammetric methods, image processing, geophysical survey, and ground-based techniques for the examination of historic buildings.
The group held one meeting during the year, this was at Bosworth Battlefield in Leicestershire on 7 December 2001. The latest results from the aerial, thermal, and geophysical survey of the battlefield were presented, followed by a report on recent techniques used at Towton battlefield in North Yorkshire. Following a guided tour of the site, the afternoon was devoted to presentations of archaeological remote sensing in Libya and Syria.
