NAPLIB SIG Annual Report 2003-2004
The 2003 Conference and AGM took place at Ordnance Survey, Southampton, on 6-7 June 2003, and focussed on aerial survey at the Ordnance Survey, past and present. Presentations were given on subjects ranging from the origins of aerial survey at OS to current work on the OS MasterMap Imagery Layer. At the AGM, both Allan Williams (The Aerial Reconnaissance Archives, Keele University) and Chris Mawson (Simmons Aerofilms Ltd), were elected to serve on the executive committee.
Three meetings of the executive committee have been held since then: in September 2003, January and May 2004. The principle business of these meetings concerned member services and the digitisation of the Directory of Aerial Photographic Collections in the United Kingdom. Work on the newsletter, website and digital Directory is ongoing.
New NAPLIB web pages were uploaded to the RSPSoc site in April 2004. Following the appearance of these pages, the association received over 30 enquiries for the Directory, for information on the 2004 AGM and for further information on membership.
The 2004 conference was held in Edinburgh on 22-23 September, at the offices of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland. The meeting was well supported by members, who enjoyed presentations on such topics as WWII imagery of Scotland and the D-Day beaches, the use of historical imagery in archaeological surveying, the rationale and methodology behind the1988 All Scotland Survey, the art of aerial photography and on the current state of the aerial survey industry in the UK.
