UK National Archives
The National Archives has one of the largest archival collections in the world, spanning 1000 years of British history, from Domesday Book to government papers recently released to the public. You can see this collection at Kew, west London, or view certain documents online. The National Archives also advises people on the location of non-public records and manuscripts relating to British history.
US National Archives
The US National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is an independent agency that preserves the US nation’s history. In the original building in Washington, DC, are the cornerstone documents of the government, the Charters of Freedom: the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, and the Bill of Rights.
West Sussex County Council Aerial
West Sussex County Council Aerial photographic surveys were commissioned by County Planning to cover the whole county in 1971, 1981, 1986, 1991, and 1997. The county was also flown in 2001 to provide contact scale photographs at 1:10,000 and digital files for use with the county’s geographic information system. www.westsussex.gov.uk
Simmons Aerofilms
Aerofilms’ Picture Library holds close to one million oblique views and over 1.5 million vertical photographs, chiefly of British locations but also includes archive views of Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Skyscan Ltd
Skyscan can supply photographs in the specialist subjects of: air to ground photography, aviation and aircraft, aerial sports. Skyskan’s accumulated has a worldwide network which can supplement its own library of over 130,000 photographs.
RCAHMW
The National Monuments Record of Wales (NMRW) holds the national collection of information about the archaeological, architectural and historical heritage of Wales. Indexes to the information, including core site data, form the RCAHMW’s contribution to the developing Extended National Database for Wales.

The AirPhotoFinder is an application hosted by the RCAHMS to help you to locate and order Aerial Photography in Scotland.

Plowman Craven and Associates use a variety of advanced electronic instrumentation to provide printed and digital data management, photogrammetry, aerial surveys, land surveys, advanced 3-dimensional modelling, CAD, GPS and other crucial services.
RCAHMS
The RCAHMS maintains the National Monuments Record of Scotland (NMRS), which includes the Air Photographs Collection. This is the national collection of air photographs of Scotland and comprises around 1.5 million aerial photographs and negatives (mostly vertical with some obliques). The collection covers the whole of Scotland, and ranges in date from the 1940s to the present day.

National Monument Record (NMR)
The NMR Aerial Photo Collection has 680,000 oblique aerial photographs of locations throughout England, which are available on open access in Swindon. 2,000,000 vertical aerial photographs covering the whole of England.
The collection includes the near-complete coverage taken by the RAF in 1946-48. These photos were the result of a survey conducted by the Royal Air Force just after World War II, to help in postwar reconstruction. These RAF photographs are at a scale of 1:10,000 or 6 inches to a mile, which allows direct comparison with Ordnance Survey maps.

The Kalagate Imagery Bureau was established in 1989 specifically to address the growing demand for expert imagery reproduction, enhancement and analysis. The Bureau is staffed with professionally trained Imagery Analysts, all of whom are qualified in photogrammetry and able to meet a complete spectrum of clients’ needs. Each analyst has extensive experience in detailed imagery interpretation and in the compilation of intelligence reports from imagery sources. These analysts are complemented by experienced Imagery Enhancement Technicians using state-of-the-art equipment.
Imperial War Museum
You can access the museum collection catalogues online. There are short essays on major historical themes leading you to selected highlights from all the collections and a fully searchable database of over 140,000 records.
Getmapping plc
Getmapping plc is a leading UK aerial photography and mapping company offering digital aerial photos and aerial photo prints for areas nationwide. They also specialise in 3D terrain mapping.
The GeoInformation Group
The group is one of Europe’s leading providers of high-resolution aerial photography and satellite imagery products and services. These include Cities Revealed, Counties Revealed, Countries Revealed, and a range of value added data such as 3D building data, land use and historical images. The group owns a large, mainly city focused archive, of 25 cm or greater resolution, orthorectified imagery of cities and counties across the UK, Continental Europe, Asia and Africa.
English Heritage
English Heritage is the Government’s statutory adviser on the historic environment. Officially known as the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England, English Heritage is an Executive Non-departmental Public Body sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

CUCAP online catalogue
The Cambridge University Collection of Aerial Photographs is the result of annual airborne survey campaigns conducted by the University since 1947. Some 500,000 images from the Collection are available on public access via the ULM’s Library.
Aerial Reconnaissance Archives
The Aerial Reconnaissance Archives, at Keele University, is an official place of deposit for The National Archives, which aims to make the aerial reconnaissance photographs deposited by the UK Ministry of Defence at TARA accessible via the internet. The archives at TARA, chart the development of photographic reconnaissance and intelligence from a position of virtual insignificance during the early part of World War II, to an integral part of Military Intelligence.
Aerial Archaeology Research Group
The Aerial Archaeology Research Group (AARG) provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and information for all those actively involved in aerial photography, photo interpretation, field archaeology and landscape history. This also includes the use of aerial photography in defining preservation policies for archaeological sites and landscapes.
