Ocean Colour SIG Annual Report 2001-2002

Members of the Ocean Colour SIG will be giving presentations at an Ocean Colour Biogeochemistry and Remote Sensing session of the Challenger Centenary Conference: Marine Science 2002 in September 2002.

The mailing list has moved, along with the National Academic Mailing List Service, to JISCmail and currently has 43 subscribed users.

There is also a Geomatics mailing list, with currently 93 subscribers, that covers broader issues e.g. coastal zone management, hydrography, geodesy, GIS, GPS & remote sensing.

Ocean colour has continued to expand with the launch of ESA’s ENVISAT satellite (March 2002). Envisat is carrying the ocean colour sensor MERIS as well as several other remote sensing technologies e.g. the measurement of sea surface temperature using AATSR, roughness using ASAR and height using RA-2.
