SAR Sig Annual Report 2005-2006
The SARSIG has been relatively inactive over the last few years and has been struggling to find a role for itself, despite the fact that SAR data is still at the cutting edge of remote sensing technology. Recent developments in InSAR and GNSS-R, the launch of ALOS and the imminent launches of TerraSAR-X and Radarsat-2 make this an exciting time for those of us working with this data.
At the RSPSoc 2005 Annual conference, it was agreed to revive the SARSIG in an attempt to support the community as a whole. The SAR community is however a ‘broad church’, and it has been difficult to find opportunities to bring people together, especially since some major workshops in GNSS-R and InSAR have been held outwith the Society during this period. It was also agreed to pursue a SARSIG session at RSPSoc 2006 to ‘kick-off’ the group and to discuss topics for future meetings with members, although this has yet to be confirmed. In the meantime, we have provided information and updates to the RSPSoc Council to reflect the new focus and management.
