SAR Sig Annual Report 2006-2007
A SARSIG session was held at the 2006 RSPSoc conference and the same is planned for 2007 (chaired jointly by the SIG convenors). The group’s focus apart from these meetings has been to prepare for a UK meeting to draw together those working on SAR / radar technology and experts in potential application sectors. The UK has some valuable facilities (airborne and ground-based radar systems) which could be used more widely to benefit the UK EO community. We are liaising with the new NERC Centre for Earth Observation Instrumentation to advertise the SARSIG activity and expect to coordinate our activities with theirs since there is significant overlap – both groups having identified similar needs. A draft “case for radar” has been prepared by the convenors and David Hall (Astrium) which will shortly be circulated to sympathetic experts in the UK. It is our intention to hold an open meeting in the next 6 months to involve the wider community in this initiative.
