Vegetation SIG Annual Report 2007-2008
The SIG convened a thematic session (number TS11) at the RSPSoc2007 in Newcastle, which was very well attended with over 30 participants. Topics included remote sensing of vegetation structure from SAR and LIDAR, apple orchard characterization using remote sensing and GIS in Himachal Pradesh, biomass estimates of semi-arid vegetation from airborne remote sensing, an evaluation of the MODIS NPP product for a Japanese test site and the response of UK vegetation to elevated temperatures in 2006 from the Envisat MERIS Terrestrial Chlorophyll Index and mean air temperature. Speakers came from University of Leicester; the State Council for Science, Technology and Environment in Himachal Pradesh, India; University of Hertfordshire; Bournemouth University; and Department of Remote Sensing, UTM, Malaysia.
The SIG intends to host a joint meeting with the GRSG/Lidar SIG and Radar SIG, which was postponed from 20 March because of the low registration numbers due to the Easter holidays.
