I cordially invite you to join our ISPRS Inter-Commission Working Group ICWG IV/VIII on: updating and Maintenance of Spatial Data Bases
The terms of reference for our new WG are as follows:
ICWG IV/VIII Terms of Reference
Automated and autonomous processes for imaging data-based updating of core spatial databases.
Development of strategy and processes for efficient maintenance of core spatial databases at the 2.5-D and 3D levels at local, regional and global scales.
Updating process through efficient use of information intelligence embedded within the spatial databases.
Theoretical and operational aspects of incremental updating and versioning of vector and raster core spatial databases
Automated algorithms for security and commercial-based versioning of core spatial databases
Study of the special needs for maintaining spatial database subsets for disaster response and recovery efforts and for search and rescue operations.
Collaboration with national mapping agencies for understanding operational needs for updating and maintenance of core databases and other groups, such as EuroSDR, Global Mapping, UNSDI, GSDI and ISPRS WGs

In terms of activities and meetings:
1. 2009 – We are planinng to join a Symposium in China that is concerned with Disaster Management
2. 2010 – Multi WG Workshop – we are trying to organize a Workshop on Maintenece and Updating of Core and Multi-use Spatial Data Bases, Haifa Israel, February or March – One other ISPRS WG already has agreed to join
3. 2010 – Commission VIII Mid-term Symposium – Kyoto, Japan – contribute several sessions
4. 2010 – Commission IV Mid-term Symposium. Orlando Florida, USA – contribute several sessions
5. 2011 – WG Workshop – either in Canada or Italy
6. 2012 – ISPRS Congress – Melbourne Australia – contribute several sessions (poster and oral as well)
7. 2012 – ISPRS Congress book – Genrate and foster a chapter on Updating and Maintenance of Spatial Data Bases that wil linclude 3-5 contributions

EuroSDR Workshop ‘National 3D Geoportals – Research Issues, Applications, Quality and Legal Issues’ is to be held on the 21st of September 2009 at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland in Muttenz/Basel (Switzerland). The workshop is organised as part of the EuroSDR Project on Virtual Globes.

November 25-27, 2009
The Joint International Workshop of ISPRS WG IV/1, VIII/1 and IV/3 on ‘Geospatial Data Cyber Infrastructure and Real-time Services with special emphasis on Disaster Management’ is scheduled to be held during November 25-27, 2009 at Hyderabad, India.
